I met Erin while she was employed by Actor’s Express Theater here in Atlanta. I did a fundraising event for them and just thought she was the “cat’s meow.” Extremely organized, brimming over with creativity, super in-love, and with more DIY gumption than anyone should be allotted. In short, her wedding was adorable and I can’t take credit for very much at all!

Jake and Erin got married in April at The Solarium – a lovely little venue in Decatur, GA. Their wedding had the uncanny feeling of elegance meets vintage without taking themselves too seriously. My favorite things would have to be the retro milk glass containers, the homemade tissue paper “poofs”, of course the dress – so fab – and who could not love Captain Solo and Princess Leia on top of the cake!?

Last weekend’s wedding started “The Season.” (yay!) So, I thought I’d just toss up a couple of cute photos from it that I took with my camera. Can’t wait to see the real deal from photographer Mala Hyder.

….and now for something completely different!

Over the past year or so my ears have enjoyed some amazing music – the blues of Blind Willie McTell have ranked right up near the top. He was a fascinating pre-war Atlanta musician with a life story to rival any of the hoity toity classical composers of my previous cultural exposure.

So, let me just say I was thrilled when Mark Miller, a friend and former boss, asked me to coordinate an event celebrating the Gospel songs and stories of Blind Willie McTell happening this Friday night, March 25th in Atlanta.  Mark will be performing songs from his recently recorded album entitled  Ain’t it Grand: The Gospel Songs of Blind Willie McTell (Check it out. Your eardrums will thank me later.) He will be joined by Michael Gray,  the leading researcher of Blind Willie’s life. Michael is an amazing storyteller (with a lovely accent!) and will be sharing his stories of a British author searching for a Southern blues musician’s life and the quirky and inspiring events that happened along the way.

It should be a great night so come on out! Tickets available here ($12) and at the door ($15).

From the first time I met with Alison and John I knew their wedding was going to be a treat! They were bubbling over with ideas and both have an artistic eye that is a wedding designer’s dream. Turn’s out the wedding was featured on several blogs, one of which is The Loveliest Day, and even published in Occasions Magazine earlier this year – which I’m terribly thrilled about!

Even though I feel like it’s already been quite featured, I still wanted to show it off here. Indulge me a bit in bragging about a lovely, heart-warming, Asian-inspired, modern-with-a-twist, beautifully captured day by Altmix Photography and design-interpreted by moi.

This wedding was not only full of personal details, elegance, and love, but it was just so much fun ta’ boot!

My dear friend, Christi, loves loves loves the store Anthropologie and asked me to help design her wedding to reflect that style. In a string of words: natural, playful, unexpected, and pretty. Christi loves lace and all things with a sense of “old and well-loved.” Beginning with the logs from her family’s yard, to the homemade cakes by a friend, to each little letter stamped on the tables, this wedding was certainly “well-loved.”

(Oh, and I must brag on the sweet and talented Mandy Busby of MBPhoto who shot their wedding and did a superb job!)

Maybe some of you heard: it snowed in the South this week. I mean snow-ed. It was amazing and terribly dreamy to stay inside for over three days with a beautiful creamy glaze over the earth. It is also so rare that we actually get a  true-blue snowfall that I felt a photo shoot had to occur. Luckily, Jim recently bought a new camera and was game to try it out by taking some photos of my creations.

Here is my take on a snowy, dreamy, romantic and rustic day of bliss.

Er, color, that is. (I know, I know…my wit is far-fetched, but it made me grin.)

This wedding is the perfect way to start 2011! It was fresh, joyful, and full of COLOR. You may remember Jenny & Jordan from their engagement photos back in October. I was so excited to see how their wedding turned out and I was not disappointed! Jenny asked me to incorporate a wide variety of colors: deep royal blue, eggplant, burnt orange, yellow, and mossy green. The vibrant combination was inspiring and a rush to my design sensibilities.

I’ll let these amazing images by The Reason Photography say the rest:

I’ve never been one for the Christmas Family Newsletters or the Year-End Countdowns, but I do really dig a list of favorite things. I have about 6 blogs that I peruse “religiously” every night and have noticed that several of them are doing Best of 2010’s. I felt a little twinge of inspiration and decided as my last post of this somewhat zany year, I’d share my own 2010 favorites.

Consider it a collection of ideas, things to smile about, flowers to smell along the way, tunes to kick up your stilettos to, and little happiness-ess. (hint, hint: several of the pictures are linked…so click away)

Go ahead. Indulge me.

And just ‘cause I also love a good Surprise Bag: Look at this and this and THIS.

Oh, and for a chuckle go here.

Happy New Year!!

I have a real treat to share today! My very best friend, Ashley is marrying her “Lovey” (real name: Juan) this summer at an ocean-view resort in Italy. (Go ahead, I can handle your jealousy.) The wedding is in July and so she decided that we should send out “Save the Dates” – a very wise woman.

Since the wedding is abroad, Ashley really wanted to create something that was a nod to travelling. We had such a blast creating these adorable little “luggage tags” to send out. I love them because they are not overly travel-themed but are just enough to provide some intrigue. (They also cost less than $0.75 each!)

To make your very own, you’ll need the following:

DSC_0316

1. An old map (we bought this one)

2. Mini doilies (you can find them in the cake/baking supply section of your local craft store)

3. Luggage/mailing tags (found at an office supply store)

4. Magnets with sticky backing, scissors, glue stick, paper clips, masking tape

5. “Nice” cardstock & matching envelopes (local art store or craft store)

6. Jewel dots (just ‘cause they’re a fun little touch – also from the craft store)

Ok, here’s what you do:

DSC_0317

Start with the info that you want to tell your guests. You need to include your names, the date of the wedding, and any other information that might be helpful in their planning – like a website or event details. Print this info on two separate pages, making sure to keep the info within an approximate 2×2 in. space. Cut those up as shown above.

DSC_0318

Cut the doilies in half.

DSC_0319

Glue the doily to the luggage tag.

DSC_0320

Cut up the map into pieces slightly larger than the info pieces.

DSC_0325

Line up the place/info/details card with the map and paper clip it to the luggage tag.

DSC_0327

Like so.

DSC_0328DSC_0329

Tape the diagonal corners of the names/date card.

DSC_0330

DSC_0323DSC_0331DSC_0332

Add the magnet to the back of the luggage tag and the jewel to the front.

DSC_0333

Perfecto!! (Now you send me pictures of yours – I’d love to see!)

I have been waiting all year to post this wedding! Morgan and Tyler are dear friends of mine who were very “swankily” hitched December 18th of last year. The wedding took place at a lovely Episcopal church and the reception was at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Morgan didn’t shy away from the seasonal elements at all which made their wedding warm, festive, and very romantic. There were little rosemary wreath boutonnieres, peppermint sticks, snow tossing and ( my personal favorite) A Christmas Carol-worthy carolers to greet the guests as they arrived at the reception. It was one of my favorite soirees to date!

Enjoy and Happy Christmas!
